The Narrative Games Convention by AdventureX Team —Kickstarter

Erm... ridiculously, we hit all our stretch goals within hours of launching. But don't panic! AdventureX is a not-for-profit event so any additional funds will be ploughed back into making the event better.

AdventureX brings together developers & gamers with a passion for interactive storytelling.

The event will take place in London, UK on the 10 & 11th November 2018. This year, we're excited to be running AdventureX in partnership with the British Library as part of International Games Week.

We love graphical adventures; interactive fiction; exploration games; visual novels – just about any game with a great story to tell. Since 2011 we've been inviting gamers and developers from across the globe to share their experiences and exhibit their games.

Partnering with the British Library is a fantastic step-up for us, but we need your support to make AdventureX 2018 happen.

All backers from Adventure Xpress tier upwards will receive a Weekend Pass to AdventureX 2018. For detailed information about tickets and concession pricing, please read our 2018 announcement.

This year, we've commissioned artist Chess Pearson to create some unique, collectable mementos for AdventureX. Our much-beloved Pin-Badges will return with 6 new designs.

Instead of carrying a clunky old laptop, why not jot down your thoughts, secrets and occult sigils in a tactile AdventureX Journal?

Just like last year, you can grab a Mystery Steam Key from one of the AdventureX Supporters behind this Kickstarter Campaign. This year, inspired by the British Library, Adventure Xtreme backers will also receive a Mystery Narrative Design eBook.

Thanks to Revolution Games, Wadjet Eye Games, Phoenix Online Studios, Application Systems HeidelbergJay Tholen, Inkle, Joe Richardson, Wispfire and Edwin McRae for being part of this Kickstarter.

Finally, Adventure Xquisite backers will receive a signed edition of The Art of Point-and-Click Adventure Games.

Special thanks to Bitmap Books, the guys behind The Art of Point-and-Click Adventure Games book.

We will announce more 2018 guest speakers as soon as they are confirmed.

2018 guest speakers:

Previous guest speakers include:

  • Rhianna Pratchett (Tomb Raider)
  • Brian Moriarty (Trinity, Loom)
  • Doug Cockle (voice of Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher)
  • Emily Short (Galatea)
  • Charles Cecil (Broken Sword, Beneath A Steel Sky)

AdventureX is a not-for-profit event, run by volunteers. But we need a budget to cover promotion, print media, speakers' expenses and entertainment features. And, of course, to ensure the viability of the event in future years.

We build a small contingency into the budget, to help us deal with the unexpected.

Thanks for asking! Applications are now open, and will close on July 31st.

We're looking for developers who want to show off their narrative-driven game at AdventureX. In addition to games, we welcome applications for software and tools related to narrative game development, and other projects related to narrative, indie & retro gaming. Apply here: Exhibitor Application Form.

Help others learn from your experience as a writer, game dev, artist, etc. Present a 30 minute talk, tutorial or game post-mortem at AdventureX 2018. We're always looking for talks that are engaging, surprising, funny & inspiring. Please complete the Speaker Application Form.

If you would like to volunteer to help run the event, (welcoming visitors and speakers, running livestreams etc.) please complete the Volunteer Application Form.

Risks and challenges

With a live event like AdventureX, there are always risks. Speakers can pull out, travel can be disrupted, tech failures can scupper presentations.

We have years of successful events under our belt, and we've dealt with all these problems. But it's important for us to prepare for unexpected twists and to secure the future of the event. That's why our budget has built-in contingencies. With our experience and your support, we're confident we can deliver another great AdventureX.
